My Mission, My Why…

Dear Community,

The summer is winding down and the fall is quickly approaching. I don’t know about you, but September often feels a lot like January to me! A new start to the second half of the year.  At this point, the year seems to speed by! I’m holding on tight and so excited for what I have to offer you all! In addition to my normal Nutrition and Pilates work, I will be busy attending five 29029 Events. I am one of the coaches on the mountain at these events as well as the nutrition guru, teaching many first timers how to eat and hydrate for endurance training and events. These events have a special place in my heart as I meet a ton of really wonderful and inspiring people on the mountain.

Wise Wellness launched nearly six years ago and I’m excited to share with you the mission that drove me to do this work.  I’ve worked in the wellness industry in some capacity for nearly 25 years and anyone that knows me personally, knows I walk the walk. My partner, Chris and I live a very authentic life. We are both incredibly passionate about serving others and getting them to feel and perform their best, not just in sport, but in life. While my path wasn’t exactly a straight line for a variety of reasons, I feel deeply connected to my life’s mission and I have no doubt I am serving others in a way that I am intended to. I work with athletes and women, as those are two categories I can personally relate to! While much of my content focuses on Women’s Health, I am still very connected and passionate about teaching athletes how to correctly fuel their bodies.

Seven years ago I decided to go to nutrition school. The decision was a culmination of my own personal health journey and the individuals I was working with privately with Pilates. It really clicked with me that injuries, inflammation, and mood dysregulation was intricately connected to what we eat/absorb and how our body responds to the state of our gut health. You can read here for my more detailed story. Once things clicked in my mind, I wanted to make a difference, not only in my own health but in those I was working with. I remember, vividly, sitting at lunch with Chris and I said, “I am going to nutrition school so I can help women avoid the postpartum depletion and injuries that I went through."

To make a long story short, I obtained additional Pilates training, specifically on the pelvic floor and diastasis recti and got my Nutrition Consultant Certification in hopes I could fix the way women are treated after they give birth. Sadly, our country is very behind in providing the proper care for women. When you get surgery of any kind, they give you a series of PT sessions. When you give birth, they give you one 6 week check up and most women never even know Pelvic PTs exist! Most of the women I was working with on Pilates were showing up when their youngest went to preschool, nearly four years after having given birth! I felt much of what I and these other women suffered postpartum was unnecessary and that with the proper nutrition and pelvic floor care, women should not need to go through as many challenges as they do after bringing life into the world!

Fast forward seven years, I have aged 😉 and so have my daughters! The ah-ha is that women go through a few big transitional stages in life and we could go through them more smoothly with the proper education and awareness. The past two years, I have taken a deep dive into studying the menopausal transition, learning about the menstrual cycle, how to adjust our nutrition, exercise, and much more to optimize our bodies.  Therefore, it is now my mission….

….to empower active women so they can thrive at every stage in life…from puberty all the way through menopause...

Women suffer a greater number of setbacks including illness, autoimmune conditions, injuries and much more because their bodies are affected by these big hormonal shifts. These setbacks affect their work, time with kids and take away momentum. I believe, with the proper education, from the beginning (puberty), on how to work with our hormones / menstrual cycles as well as understanding the intricate role of nutrition and major core pelvic floor muscles, women can appreciate their female body and use the knowledge to optimize their health and performance in life and in sport.

My fall program was a long time coming but I am SOOO excited to share it with you. See below for the link to all the information. Please pass this along to anyone and everyone you think could benefit from this type of information so they too can start their healing journey.

With love and gratitude,
