FROM INTENTION TO TRANSFORMATION: MAKING YOUR GOALS STICK

As each year draws to a close, it's an inevitable reminder of life's finite nature and the turning of a new page. It's common to reflect on the past year and vow, "This is the year I’m going to..." Many set New Year's resolutions and personal promises, yet research suggests that only about 9% of Americans who make resolutions actually achieve them. In fact, 23% abandon their resolutions within the first week, while 43% give up by the end of January! Their intentions are sincere, but they often lack a deep connection to the desired outcomes.

For example, setting a goal of losing 15 pounds, adopting healthier eating habits, drinking less alcohol, starting a meditation practice, and going to the gym consistently are all wonderful things to aim for. These habits could improve your health, energy, and focus. People start off motivated and committed. However, as life's demands intensify, the new habits wane, and old patterns resurface, leading many to end the year precisely where they started.

WAYS TO TAKE ACTION

I encourage you to take 3 of your goals and look at them on a deeper level. For example, if your goal is to lose 15 lbs, ask yourself (and write out) the answers to the following questions:

  1. What would losing 15 lbs do for me?

  2. How would this improve my life?

  3. What are 3 behaviors I would need to make this happen?

  4. What are the limiting beliefs I have about myself that have prevented me from being successful in the past?

  5. What will life be like if you don’t make these changes?

Getting clear on the WHY behind your goals and getting real about the things that serve as obstacles will help you clarify the action steps and tools needed to bring your goals to life.

I invite you to share your health goals and the responses to these questions with me. Sharing brings a heightened level of commitment and accountability.

Be Well,
