Dance with Me

I've always had a secret desire to be on Dancing with the Stars. The athleticism, grace, and confidence they exude is so captivating—not to mention, it highlights all the ways my own body doesn't move! Running, cycling, swimming, Pilates… all so linear. But dancing? Dancing is sexy, circular, and fluid. I believed it would help my hips, my mobility, and ultimately, my athletic performance.

After years of just talking about it, Chris and I finally took the plunge and started ballroom dance lessons. Just for fun, for connection, and to learn something new together. We’re having an absolute blast, but let’s just say… it’s going to take a while to move past our basic box step!

The more I dance, the more I realize how much it mirrors relationships—not just romantic ones, but friendships and even coaching. Every partnership, in its own way, is a dance. A rhythm of give and take, leading and following, knowing when to step in and when to step back.

In a romantic relationship, dancing is trust in motion. I have to learn to feel rather than think, to let go and allow Chris to lead. And for him, it’s about creating structure and boundaries that make me feel safe enough to follow. There’s a push and pull, moments of tension and release, and a deep connection that can only happen when two people are truly in sync. Just like in relationships, missteps happen—but the key is to keep moving together.

Friendships, too, have their own unique dance. They are about laughter, letting loose, and enjoying the moment without overthinking the steps. With the right people, you don’t need choreography—you just move together, flowing effortlessly from deep conversations to carefree fun. It’s about knowing when to take the lead and when to simply enjoy the ride.

And then there’s coaching, which in so many ways is its own kind of dance. When I coach, I’m not there to dictate the steps—I’m there to create a safe space where my clients can find their own rhythm. I am the lead, but only in the sense that I set the boundaries and hold the container. The real magic happens when they step into the movement themselves, discovering their own power, confidence, and direction.

So here’s my question for you: Where in your life do you need to loosen your grip and trust the dance? Stop thinking and just trust? Forget the fear of failure and learn something new? Share you thoughts with me, I'd love to hear!
